Visiter la boutique WHIRLPOOLWhirlpool est une société américaine spécialisée dans la conception, la fabrication et la distribution d'appareils électroménagers. Whirlpool est le leader mondial sur ce créneau. Son nom en anglais signifie tourbillon, d’où son logotype.
Son origine remonte au 11 novembre 1911, lorsque les frères Louis, Fred et Emory Upton fondèrent à Saint Joseph (Michigan), l’Upton Machine Company pour produire des machines à laver-essoreuses. Certaines de ses machines furent commercialisées sous la marque Allen. Whirlpool connut le succès après la seconde guerre mondiale et prit la place de leader aux Etats-Unis. Cela lui permit de racheter la division électroménager de Philips en 1991. Whirlpool fut également sollicitée par la NASA pour son projet GEMINI (programme de vols spatiaux habités). Elle développa également pour la NASA des crèmes glacées lyophilisées pour améliorer le quotidien des astronautes…
Son chiffre d’affaire attient les 13 milliards de dollars et Whirlpool emploie plus de 69000 personnes en 2013. Outre les machines à laver, Whirlpool fabrique aussi des hottes, des climatiseurs…
